Hackers don’t break in—they sign in. Protect one of attackers’ most common entry points by going passwordless.

Microsoft Authenticator mobile application can be used to sign in to any Harrisburg University account without using a password. This is called Passwordless Authentication.  Microsoft Authenticator uses key-based authentication to enable a user credential that is tied to a device, where the device uses a PIN or biometric.

Below are the steps you need to take to make sure your account is enabled for Passwordless Authentication. This assumes you have already setup the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app. If you do not have the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app setup, please follow the steps at Microsoft Authenticator Application.

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
  2. Select the Harrisburg University account that has your email listed.
  3. Now click Set up phone sign-in (Sign in without a password) on the account screen.
  4. Follow the instructions on screen to register your device so it can be trusted.
  5. Now on the Sign-in with your phone screen, click CONTINUE.
  6. Passwordless sign-in should now be enabled for the account. You can click the account again in the list of accounts to check that ‘Passwordless enabled’ is displayed on the account screen.
