Harrisburg University staff and faculty will be required to login to Slate using an HU issued laptop or desktop. In addition, you will need to use the Microsoft Edge browser when accessing Slate. Many users are already meeting these two requirements and no action is needed.

Why?

Protecting the privacy of a student’s education records and personal identifiable information is federally mandated in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This new device policy along with the already enforced identity management controls provides another layer of security to protect the confidentiality and integrity of student data in Slate. In the event of account compromise, a bad actor would fail to gain access to Slate unless they also had physical access to your Harrisburg University issued laptop or desktop. Read more about the Zero Trust model that is adapted with this policy.

What do I need to do?

  1. Continue using your Harrisburg University issued laptop.
  2. Use the Microsoft Edge browser to access Slate.
  3. Double check that you are signed into Edge with your Harrisburg University account.
    1. Launch the Microsoft Edge browser on your PC.
    2. Click on the Profile icon situated at the top right.
    3. Hit on the Sign in button and login with your HU email and password.
