Harrisburg University has conditional access policies in place that force two-step authentication in order to access HU online resources. Conditional access policies consist of but are not limited to application type, IP location, authentication type and role based access. VPN connections are not supported and can sometimes cause Microsoft risk detections that block or prevent login based off IP location.
Two-step verification is an additional security step that helps protect your account by making it harder for other people to break in. The suggested second method of verification is the Microsoft Authenticator app. The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign-in to your accounts by clicking "approve" on your mobile device. Two-factor verification helps you to access your accounts more securely, especially while viewing sensitive information. Because passwords can be forgotten, stolen, or compromised, two-factor verification is an additional security step that helps protect your account by making it harder for other people to break in.
It is not required that you use the Microsoft Authenticator app. You can continue to use traditional methods such as SMS and Voice. To manage all two-step verification methods, go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup.
